Sharpening kit | DC4 not pictured |
My homemade sharpening kit:
Here is my new homemade sharpening kit. It consists of wet & dry sandpaper glued onto thin wooden blocks. I use it alongside my Fallkniven DC4 to get a razor sharp edge on my bushcraft knives. I also strop and polish my knives after using this to keep then looking like new. I apply a thin layer of water to the sandpaper before I sharpen my knives, this helps prevent scratching on the blade.
I generally use 80 grit, 240 grit, and 400 grit. I use the 80 grit if I have a ding in the blade, however if I just need to restore a razor edge I will use the 240 grit, and the 400 grit. Sometimes I just use the 400 grit. It all depends on how sharp or dull the blade is and what I will be using it for.

To make them I:
- Used an axe to split the wood into the desired size
- Rounded one half with my knife (so I can hold it comfortably)
- Cut the sandpaper to size
- Mounted the sandpaper onto the flat part of the wood with glue
These are an really easy, cheap, and effective way to sharpen your knives and other tools without having to buy expensive whetsones to keep your knives in good condition. When the sandpaper becomes too fine to use, all you have to do is cut some more sandpaper. peel of the old one, apply some glue, and stick down the new sandpaper. You can still use the sandpaper you have peeled of to remove scratches from the bevel the finer the it becomes with use. Just apply some tape to the back so it does not breaks up.
