Meths Stove Tests:
Recently I made a Super Cat meths stove and decided to compare it to my Soda can Tom's stove.
Below are some statistics on the test.
For both tests I used 20 ml of methylated spirits with >10% water.
Boil time for the Soda Can stove: [250 ml] 3:57.
Boil time for the Super Cat stove: [250 ml] 4:40.
(The times did not include priming time and waiting for the stoves to bloom)
Cup: Mk.1 Crusader Cup
Temperature: 18 Celsius
The Tom's Can Stove instructions can be found HERE.
The Super Cat Stove instructions can be found HERE.
Overall I Prefer the Tom's Can Stove over the Super cat stove as the Super Cat Stove it takes longer to boil and is not able to cope well with any amount of wind. The Tom's stove design means that each of the jets originates from a different combustion chamber. This means that if one jet is blown out by wind then the rest of the jets are unaffected. In fact they actually increase in power as the methylated vapour is put under even more air pressure on the opposite jets. This also increases the efficency of the stove as more vapour is burnt and not wasted.
