In definition a storm is "a violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong winds and usually rain, thunder, lightning, or snow" (Oxford dictionary).

Storms are commonly marked by:

  • Wind
  • Hail
  • Thunder
  • Lightening

From a meteorological perspective, a storm is a wind over 10 in the Beaufort scale(55 mph).
they can last for 12 to 200 hours and cause catastrophic damage to buildings other structures.

Also storms are not limited to Earth. They have been spotted on Mars and Saturn by telescopes such as the Hubble and Space-craft such as Marina 9 when it orbited Mars in 1971.
